The Mayor of Doncaster has shown her support for the ‘Blow the Whistle’ campaign on social media, earlier today.
Ros Jones took to Facebook to highlight the shocking statistics concerning South Yorkshires domestic assault rates in 2018, the last year of the World Cup.
Mayor Jones also shared her support for the ‘Blow the Whistle’ campaign. As well as the campaigns fundraising efforts, for a South Yorkshire women’s refuge.
The post said: “During the 2018 FIFA World Cup, South Yorkshire saw a 1488% increase in domestic assaults causing injury.
“Domestic violence and it’s links to football is not talked about enough.
“There is no excuse for Domestic Violence and we must all do what we can to stop this happening, to raise awareness and direct victims to the support available.
“I fully support South Yorkshire Echo with their campaign and fundraising efforts. #BlowTheWhistle”
The Blow the Whistle campaign aims to raise awareness of these statistics in light of the approaching World Cup games, as well as raising funds for local South Yorkshire charity, the YWCA.
Since launching on the 2 November 2022, the Blow the Whistle fundraiser has raised £250 towards a wellness centre for the YWCA.
